This is an artistic mock-up of the glass sculpture. The glass pieces are weaved together
with a very thin wiring structure. Glass pieces are very light. Another set of "wavelength"
colored glass hangs down like a chime from the "blanket" creating a light sound blowing
in the wind. There are multiple rows of these chimes (not featured here in size, scale, or color)

La Petit Proposition:
Technicolor Garden
The Technicolor Garden was inspired by the garden tour my band and I took during the Honk! NYC street band festival in Manhattan last September. (www.honknyc.com) I was struck by the passion for these community gardens, and the struggle to keep them thriving and out of corporate hands. It moved me deeply. We toured about 10+ gardens. I saw the solace and quiet that could be brought to the neighborhood, as well as the vibrancy and color. I came back to Austin with a more activist political approach and appreciation for the land space, green, and vibrant culture and artistic community that is constantly threatened here.
What is the “Technicolor Garden?”
The Technicolor Garden is a multi-colored glass and sound installation consisting of fused, colored glass pieces hanging from the canopy of the trees in the garden; connected by wires in a quilt-like fashion. Spaces for the sunlight to shine through as well as attention to the rising and setting of the sun will be taken into consideration; as well as any other obstacles. The piece could range in size, and contain several parts, but will be site specific to Le Petit Versailles, filling the garden with the appropriate amount of sculpture.
In addition to this horizontal technicolor "canopy", glass pieces will hang vertically, creating a beautiful, light sonic chime-like sound blowing in the breeze. Sturdy, colored pieces of glass are cut in accordance with their color/ frequency relationship. For example, Blue sits on the spectrum at 475 NM. This color piece will be cut into an even amount of mm or inches that corresponds to its frequency. Red has a wavelength visible at 650 nm. It will be slightly bigger piece, also cut to an even number of mm or inches. These pieces will hang closely to one another so that the proper sound effect can be achieved. The spectral colors will inform the vertical glass placement giving the installation its 3D effect, thus affecting the sonic and visual vibration in the garden.
Visual Conclusion:
The horizontal “technicolor blanket” of glass hangs under the beautiful Manhattan sky, with small pieces of glass also hanging vertically, cut to their sound frequency length, making a sonic sound; as well as a visual and auditory experience that takes into consideration vibrations that travel through the air at their specific sound wave intervals. The enlivening and enlightening glass sculpture and installation will elevate the vibration and frequency of the garden space and attract visitors and street viewers.
Part 2: Technicolor Garden Musical Composition Performance
If time, budget and weather permits, I would like to arrange a gathering of local NYC musicians to perform an original composition of music in the garden kicking off the installation. A simple 30 - 40 minute avant guard composition would be composed and performed live. It would consist of woodwinds, percussion, and midi tracks inspired by nature and NYC. The composition would have a prerecorded midi track of random sounds that would inspire and inform the woodwind ensemble. Musicians would sit in a circle and play off one another and the installation.
Part 3: The Technicolor Garden at Night
When garden is open at night, lights could be placed in specific places illuminating the garden in the most wonderful way. It can be a simple as white christmas lights strategically placed, or as complicated as having a lighting designer come in and design the scene for maximum use of the garden and installation at night.
Parts 2 and 3 are optional. If time, weather, and budget allows, all of the ideas can be brought together seamlessly.
A note to the Le Petit Versailles art committee:
Thanks for this wonderful opportunity to come up with this site-specific project. These ideas were generated in response to your team’s passionate pursuit of Community and the Arts. I hope this project can see it’s first light in your beautiful garden space.

Concepts for "Technicolor Forest" Include:
- Raising vibration through sound frequency
- creating a visual and auditory experience that reaches the subconscious
- attract visitors from the streets to come in and experience the garden
- inspire creative thought and promote growth and tranquility
- create a live performance of avant-guard musicians
- create a visual situation at night, if the garden is open
